Virtualization
HDS Universal Volume Manager.
External storage virtualization for HDS VSP — enabling heterogeneous storage arrays from third-party vendors to be managed and migrated through a single HDS VSP controller, simplifying multi-vendor environments.
Overview
HDS Universal Volume Manager (UVM) allows the Hitachi VSP to virtualize storage volumes from third-party arrays — including EMC, NetApp, HP, and IBM — presenting them to hosts as VSP-managed volumes. This enables organizations to manage heterogeneous storage environments through a single VSP management interface and apply HDS software features (replication, tiering, snapshots) to non-HDS storage.
STME uses UVM in data center consolidation programs where clients have multi-vendor storage environments and want to standardize on a single management platform. UVM also enables non-disruptive data migration from legacy storage to new VSP arrays.
